It is expected that some 10 New Zealand male choirs will be participating in this festival.
The New Zealand Festivals of Male Choirs are occasions where the male choirs of New Zealand gather to meet socially, and to present jointly one (or more) public concerts. Traditionally the Festivals have not involved other participants, and have not incorporated any element of competition. The concerts have included items from individual choirs, as well as contributions from a mass choir of all participants. This Festival sees a change to some of these elements in that there will be competitive judging undertaken for three chosen pieces sung be each of the individual choirs.
Festivals are held every three or four years, with the venue and host for the next Festival being chosen by the choirs at a current Festival. Any proposals for a different structure or format for the Festivals may be considered by the host choir, or may be discussed and adopted by the meeting of choirs at a Festival.
Nelsom Male Choir has been selected to organise and host the Festival in Nelson and have chosen a festival date of Labour Weekend, 25-27 October 2008. The festival will provide a fantastic opportunity for the people of the Nelson Bays as well as enthusiasts from other areas to hear men’s choir music at its best.
The programme is to be confirmed.
